Time passes

It’s been one year
since that 5 am wake up call
to tell me you passed.
Life is so much different —
a world stricken with panic
and pandemic,
isolation keeps us away.
I’m glad you don’t have
to witness this new normal,
but I still feel the loneliness
of your absence.

This past year
ebbed more than it flowed.
More days of dark shadows
with glimmers of hope.
Your memories bring both
smiles and tears
that I hope will last years,
just to hold and grasp
those moments in time
when you were once here.
