A to Z: “Matches to Paper Dolls”

“M” Inspiration:  “Matches to Paper Dolls” by Dessa

“Oil and Water”

We once made a pact
to reconnect by age 30
if neither committed.
We were oil and water.
Every time you’d pour your lust,
I would try to dilute.
But that flicker
ignited into desire.
It was your time to leave.
And we’d go on to believe
that this was over and done.
And we both moved on.
Until one day, our paths cross
Actions burst from thoughts.
But just like before,
Your oil is too slick.
This mix is toxic.
We’ll never blend,
you just suffocate
my ability to breathe.
The only way to survive
is to deprive you
before you ignite
your light onto me.
