The first of November, a warm sunny autumn day. Blue skies and a slight breeze with a few interval clouds. Woke up early to the pleasure of daylight savings. Gained an hour today, or so it felt. Spent the majority of my day inside looking out – part of me regrets that, but mostly enjoyed it. A day to myself. That is how I should spend the better part of each day, but in our chaotic lives of work and play, we forget that we need to first and foremost take care of ourselves.
So today, I took care of myself. Prepared myself for another chaotic week where I know I will not be taking the best care of myself. Working crazy hours to get the job done, bending over backwards to help others who need my expertise and talents. Staying up late to finish projects for friends. All of that begins tomorrow. But today is my day.
Discovery of the day? Find something to do for yourself each and every day. Even if it is something small, like going to bed early, saying no to a friend, or simply stepping away from your work desk to take a few deep slow breathes.
Tomorrow will be crazy but after the work hour, I am engaging in some personal development from 7- 9 pm. That is my time… don’t even try to interrupt.
